History
THE MALL THAT STARTED IT ALL
It all began here. SM City North EDSA innovated and institutionalized the "one-stop shopping complex" and was the first mall in the Philippines to introduce "malling" as a pastime. Besides being a haven for shoppers, the architecture of the mall blends both old and new, creating calming and colorful scenes.
With world-class cinemas, a helpful and convenient transport depot for easy commuting, outdoor parking, and attractive structures, SM City North EDSA aims to be an architectural landmark of Metro Manila’s progress, as well as one of the most beautiful structures in the Philippines.

SM CITY NORTH EDSA
Mr. Henry Sy, Sr.’s Vision
“While I was on my shopping trips abroad during the 1950s and 1960s, I saw the shopping center development in the US from the East to the West Coast. I knew that this would happen in the Philippines.”
The Times:
“In 1983, we were building SM City North-EDSA, our first shopping mall. Many people at that time said I was crazy. There was a political crisis; interest rates were as high as 45%, and the location of the mall was in the middle of nowhere. They said that SM City would not succeed, but the mall was an instant success.”
